Our 4th of July Picnic will run from Noon to 2:00pm for those members participating in the scramble that morning and will also run from 5:00pm to 8:30pm fro those coming to watch the fireworks. understand that 22,000 expected at the ball game and lakemont Park, traffic is being made one way after the fireworks. You might be better off to prepare to use Convention Center Boulevard that evening. Watch the Altoona Mirror for updates. There is a lot of golfing news this month so I am going to add just two more items. 1) We will not have a Happy Hour Wednesday July 17th through Sunday July 21st due to The Classic; and 2) Make you aware that with the heat we experiencing it is necessary to spot water the greens and fairways to keep the grass alive. We will attempt to not interfere with your play but the condition of the course must take precedent.

Thanks for your understanding. ' C T WEBER

Hard to believe it is already July. The weather has been heating up and it is time for the Park Hills Classic. The course will he closed to member play July 18th (Thursday) through July 21st (Sunday). We once again have an extremely strong field and I would encourage you to come and watch the action, there will certainly be some great golf played. Last years qualifying medalists Ty Grove and Scan McLanahan shot a best ball of 59 to set the qualifying record. A second round match last year between eventual champions Dimuccio and Pagley were 8 under through 12 holes and were only 1 up pretty stiff competition!
Congratulations to Brian Smith who won the Mens Match Play Club Championship in a tight finals match against Bill Allen. First flight winner was Dave Cowger, second flight winner was Ron Dandrea Jr.. and third flight champion was Dave Carotliers.
Senior Club Champion is Craig Diehl who won in a two hole playoff over defending champion Clay Figard Jr.
Entry's for the men's member-guest August 16th -18th will be taken beginning July 1st. The field is limited to the first 72 teams and you must sign up in the pro shop. Entry fee is $200.00 and you may pay by cash. check, credit card. or billed to you club account. Any charges to your club account must be signed for li.e. you must enter in person at the pro shop). Please note to all who are entering the event -you will be given a handicap verification card for your guest that will identity that we need their handicap as of August 1st, 2002 - they should not return the cards until the handicaps at their respective clubs are updated August 1st.
For golfers with physical handicaps, we do have handicap flags that are available that will allow you more access to certain areas of the golf course. There are certain restrictions that are available that identify what you can and cannot do, so please ask us and we will help you out. Another note about golf cart use - PLEASE - whenever you approach a green get your cart on the path. No sneaking up behind the #2 tee box driving to the left of the #9 green etc. We really don't want to have to rope off all restricted areas of the golf course, please use common sense. Additionally, when you are around tee areas, keep all four wheels of your cart on the path, there is no need to pull off to the side.
The gold tee tournament is held this year on July 28th. This is a fun event when everyone gets to play the very forward tees and try to set a new "gold tee" course record. Short game, you better have it in gear for this event. The 4th of July Scramble is on Thursday and all golf members, women, and Junior golf members are invited to play. The event is an 8:00 a.m. shotgun so you can get to your family/friends to enjoy the rest of the 4th (hopefully after you have won the Scramble). The club has a BBQ that afternoon so you can spend the whole day with golf/food/festivities at Park Hills. A note when it is this hot and the weather is unpredictable as far as thunderstorms, we will sound the siren two times to indicate a suspension of play and that players should take cover. Periodically, the siren will sound because it is on a phone line and if someone dials the wrong number (the siren number) it will sound. For events that are shotgun starts, we will sound the siren one time, but for any dangerous weather situations, it will be two signals from the siren. Please note: we are not meteorologists so if you feel that inclement weather is imminent, it is each players responsibility to take cover. The USGA covers this in their rules, so please be cognizant of this....live to play another day, don't risk lightning and inclement weather.

Pool News

Holy Heatwave Batman! What a hot spell we have had over these last few weeks! The pool is certainly settin' used by quite a lot of people.
The Swim Team is enjoying a super inaugural season. All involved with the program have great things to say We hope this activity will continue for years to come. Kudo's to all.
"Guard Cook Offs" will be held during one week in July. Look for signs around the pool with further info. Every Sunday night, 6:00pm - 9:00pm will be "Float" night. All rafts, boats, innertubes, etc. can be enjoyed in me pool Also a guard sponsored activity will take place sometime that evening. Once again, signs around the pool will give more info closer to the actual date of the event.
Parents, Thank You for following the rule about floaties so diligently. It is imperative that young children who cannot swim are monitored continuously by PARENTS while in the pool. The primary job for a life guard is not babysitting but to practice Preventative Lifequarding Techniques. The pool is busy so please remember the following courtesies: 1) Chairs are on a 1st come 1st served basis. DO NOT save chairs for people coming later in the day. Also, young children who do not use a chair often throughout the day do not need to use a chair to hold towels etc.. 2) Throw away trash that accumulates in your area so it doesn't blow around or attract pests. 3) Children under the age of five are not permitted in the bathrooms with out adult supervision. 4) NO food or drink can be brought into the pool are. 5) Absolutely NO Children over the age of 5 are permitted in the baby pool. Continued abuse will result in those children being benched for a 10 minute time out.
